Blake has spent 30 years helping people move better. He graduated from UBC, where he also played varsity volleyball. Following his time as a varsity player, he continued his involvement in the sport by coaching at Douglas College for a number of years.
After completing his formative pedorthic training in the Lower Mainland, Blake became a Certified Pedorthic Technician in 1997 and earned his designation as a Canadian Certified Pedorthist in 2000. In 2005, he and his wife, Christy, opened Progressive Step with the goal of creating a clinic that blends strong clinical education with a personal, community-focused approach.
Blake remains deeply involved in shaping the pedorthic profession. He serves as an exam proctor and Ethics Committee member with the Canadian College of Pedorthics, and over the years, he has trained over half a dozen pedorthists. He has presented at national conferences, co-chaired an annual conference, and regularly provides educational talks for allied health professionals and community groups. Blake also makes a point of attending conferences across Canada and North America to stay current with emerging research and biomechanical theory.
Throughout his career, Blake has worked with nearly every type of client: professional athletes, marathoners, weekend warriors, growing kids, individuals with chronic disease or disability, and anyone simply looking to walk more comfortably. His assessment style is rooted in education, helping people understand their movement patterns, while keeping things approachable and even a little fun.
Outside the clinic, Blake loves walking with his dogs, pedaling away on his Peloton bike, and attempting, with mixed success, to play guitar. He proudly calls himself a foot, shoe, and movement nerd, and he brings that enthusiasm into client interactions.
